Hello. For being a relatively small community, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary has an interesting way of not letting everyone know each other (at least, I've found, not in the first few months there), so I'd like to take this space to let you know a little bit about me. If you've visited this site to find out more about my platform and not so much about me, go ahead and skip to those posts... I won't be offended. This is, after all, an election and candidates should be elected upon the merit of their ideas, not their winsome personalities.
Briefly put, I was born and raised in Mansfield, OH by two (and since I was 13) three wonderful parents (divorce and my mom remarried). I have a younger sister, Kerry, who got married this past August. I was not raised in the Christian home, though - to my parents' credit - a theist home. I came to the faith on February 25th, 2000 after six months of actively exploring the faith through worship, prayer and MANY good conversations with my friend Josh Peffley. I left for Kent State University in the fall of 2000 and achieved a Bachelors of English Literature in 2004, graduating cum laude and a Masters of English Literature in 2006. Shortly after beginning my Master's work in the fall of 2004, I met Brianne Phelps and this June 23rd, she'll become my wife. It was also during this time that I began to reconsider my desire to be a college professor for what I thought I might more be meant to do. And this is why I'm at PTS.
That is pretty much everything (or, at least, everything that can be put into 10 sentences). Feel free to e-mail me at jaschooley@gmail.com or stop me in the hall if you want to know more (everyone's favorite topic is, after all, themselves). Hopefully, though, this brief bio doesn't take away from what's important and that's the platform I've created with the benefit of each PTS student in mind. This platform isn't, I'm quite sure, comprehensive or complete, but until I hear from you, it's the best I've got.
Finally, this whole website is dedicated to persuading you to elect me as Vice President for the Student Association. I wouldn't lie to you or try to dress this up as something more. My hope, though, is that the content of this site will put you at ease to vote for me.
